“The commitment I envision must be in our Catholic bones: the need to assemble each Sunday, to make common prayer in song, to hear the scriptures and reflect on them, to intercede for all the world, to gather at the holy table and give God thanks and praise over the bread and wine which are for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and finally to go from that room to our separate worlds—but now carrying the tune we have heard, murmuring the words we have made ours, nourished by the sacred banquet, ready in so many ways to make all God’s creation and all the work of human hands into the kingdom we have glimpsed in the liturgy…” Gathered by the Holy Spirit, we pray the Holy Mass in both word and song. As we live in the rhythms and seasons of the liturgical church year, we are continually encircled into the whole story of God’s creation and in God’s redeeming gift of life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There are many opportunities for parishioners to join the great song of the Church.
The Choirs of All Saints Parish assist in leading the assembly in song, and provide special music during the Mass. The adult choirs are composed of volunteers who come from various levels of musical experience. The choir’s repertoire draws from plainsong to the twenty-first century, encompassing a wide range of expression. Choir members are encouraged during their musical development, while preparing for their liturgical role as leaders in worship. Opportunities to Serve in the Music MinistryCantors

Historically, bells have played an important role for Christians. As early as the eighth century, church bells were rung to announce to the community that church services were beginning, both on Sundays and on other Holy Days. Through the use of church bells, the faithful are reminded of Christ's presence, His importance in our lives, and our need to honor Him in adoration and prayer. The beautiful pealing of church bells, whether by immense cast bells inside majestic bell towers, or the small handheld type used by our handbell ringers, draw us closer to God. Interested ringers from 6 years old and up are invited to join one of the handbell choirs. Formation includes teaching technique, music reading, and ensemble training. The handbells play for a variety of Masses, including the monthly Family Mass, as well as at Christmas and Easter. For more information, please contact Sharon Smith at [email protected]. |
